For first post, please answer the questions below!
Describe your issue in detail
Hello, I am a novice to Pydio. I successfully deployed Pydio and modified the database encoding to UTF-8. However, only documents such as PDF and text can be previewed, and documents such as Doc and pptx cannot be previewed. At the same time, I would like to know if Pydio Cells Home can be used for free on the company’s servers?
What version of Cells are you using?
4.4.17
What is the server OS? Database name/version? Browser name or mobile device description (if issue appears client-side)?
10.5.29-MariaDB MariaDB Server on Alibaba Cloud Linux 3 (OpenAnolis Edition)
What steps have you taken to resolve this issue already?
At the same time, I would like to know if Pydio Cells Home can be used for free on the company’s servers?
Yes, but we no guaranty
(...) WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED,
INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF
MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULARPURPOSE (...)
Please refer to the GNU AGPLv3 license for a better understanding of what you can or cannot do.
And there are limitations, typically:
no feature that are usually used in enterprise context and not at home like e.g. SSO / LDAP integration
no integration with advanced extraction tools to e.g generate previews and thumbnails for MS documents
I must admit that we have more than a bunch of customers that used the free version for a while before finally buying a license to have all features and because the product is so cool
That’s being said, welcome to the community and happy file sharing.
Thank you very much for your prompt and detailed response.
I appreciate the clarification. Just to confirm my understanding:
Using the Home Edition on our company servers for internal file sharing is allowed.
We understand it comes with no warranty and is governed by the AGPLv3 license.
We also take note of the feature limitations, such as the lack of LDAP/SSO integration and advanced document previews.
It’s great to hear that many customers start with the free version and eventually upgrade. We will likely do the same – starting with the community edition to test the waters, and if everything goes well, we will certainly consider a commercial license in the future to unlock the full potential of Pydio. The product looks really promising!
Thanks again for your help, and we look forward to being part of the Pydio community.
